First Day of K.

Just in case you are wondering- what did my child do on his/her first day of kindergarten?
Well... Here is a run-down of how our day went:
1.  We learned where to put our backpacks and lunchboxes and how to "check-in" on the SMARTboard.
2. We worked pattern block puzzles.
3. We toured our classroom and learned all the do's and dont's of our areas and materials.
4. We read "Pete the Cat Rocking His School Shoes", toured the school looking for Pete, and colored a coloring page while eating a snack that Pete left us.
5. We took an assessment to show how well we listen and follow directions.
6. We read "Look Out Kindergarten Here I Come" and drew a self-portrait.
7. We ate lunch with our friends and learned the lunchroom rules.
8. We talked about the poem "Jack and Jill" and read "Rainbow Fish".
9. We completed our first Interactive Notebook/Journal entry where we cut, glued, and sorted letters and numbers.
10. We learned our rules for the playground and finished our day with time playing with friends.
It was a fun day filled with lots of activities and adventures. I hope you got to hear all about it!!

OOPS!! Things I Forgot to Tell You

There were a few things I forgot to mention at Open House.
1.  I keep the room cool. You may want to send an extra jacket with your child that he/she may leave at school. Please be sure to write your child's name inside the jacket.
2. I have to receipt all money that is turned in separately. So if you write checks I will need separate checks for: $23 Activity Fee, $5 Journal & Folder, and lunch money.
3. End of the day dismissal-
All bus riders will be placed on their bus by a kindergarten teacher. They will be introduced to the bus driver and I will place an address label on each child's backpack. They will be asked to sit in the front.
Car riders will all be taken to the pod by a K teacher. They sit in Mrs. Nelson's classroom with the K teacher on duty. Parents that walk up will be asked to sign their child out. Those who drive up will be placed in the car by a teacher. We do this to keep our little ones separate from bigger kids. This way we can keep a close eye and they can sit and rest while waiting. Therefore, if your child is a car rider you need to go through the car rider line starting on Odd Fellow Drive next to the smaller playground OR park in the lower gravel church parking lot and walk up.

OPEN HOUSE and KINDERGARTEN

Welcome to Mrs. Pendleton's class!!
Indian Springs Elementary's Open House for Kindergarten will be Thursday, July 30th at 5:00. We will begin with a grade level meeting in the cafeteria then disperse to the individual K classrooms. This is a great time to bring in school supplies and become familiar with the classroom and school. I am looking forward to meeting all the children and parents.
Please remember that your child will only attend school one day that first week of school. This is called staggered enrollment. It is a time for the students to become familiar with the school and rules in a smaller group (4-5 students). No K children attend that first Monday, 8/3. Then your child will attend a full school day (8:10-3:15) one of the following days:
Tuesday, 8/4- Group 1
Wednesday, 8/5-Group 2
Thursday, 8/6- Group 3
Friday, 8/7-Group 4
Then all K students will begin a regular schedule Monday, August 10.

Kindergarten Graduation 2015

May 19, 2015
This was our first Kindergarten Graduation at ISE. And it was a huge success!  We need to send a special thank you to Mr. Cox, who allowed us to have this celebration, and Mr. Hefner, who put a lot of hard work and planning into making it all happen. Each kindergartener was asked to dress like what he/she wanted to be as a grown-up. Graduation pictures were displayed with each child pictured in a graduation cap and gown (thanks to Ashley Arnold). The students also sang precious songs about their first year at school. We are blessed and it shows!
